The beach section of the GDAC organises 12 beach matches each calendar year. Some are commodore allowing anglers to fish together as a group, whilst others are rovers, allowing anglers to pick their own venue (many visiting their favourite haunts). There are also 2 Big Fish competitions; one in the summer months, where anglers search for that double figure smoothound and the other in the winter months, searching for cod!
Fishing within the Solent, the matches are spread along different marks along the coast, including Hayling Island, Eastney, Southsea, Gilkicker and stretches of the Meon shore. A whole range of fish are caught from the small pouting and whiting to smoothounds topping 14lbs or congers over a metre long!
Why not join this keen group of anglers, who range from the experienced seasoned anglers, who are always eager to share their knowledge of the local waters, to the less experienced. Yes, you can enter into a pool to win a modest pot of money, but the main aim is to get out on a regular basis and catch fish.
The end of the season is celebrated within our Xmas Fayre competition. All anglers who have fished at least 6 of the competitions can enter this social event, which is part funded by the club. Everyone entering is awarded with a prize far greater than the £10 entry fee.
